Ohope Anglican Methodist Parish

We went to a lovely little church service today in Ohope.  Tessa Keene lead the service and we loved her enthusiasm!  Her sermon really did hit home as she challenged our consumer culture and reminded us that God loves us (even knows how many hairs we have on our head) and it doesn't matter how many pairs of shoes we have, what kind of car we drive or how big our house is.  She encouraged us to use our resources responsibly and asked us to think in an 'eternal' frame of mind.  It was great.

Even better than that - it was
fabulous to hear about all the work she is doing in the community.  Some time ago she approached the local playcentre and asked how she and the church could serve them.  As a result a pre-school music group was born.  She has also responded to a local need from mums with large families.  She now facilitates a place where these families can get together.  Awesome work.

Must remember a cool thing they do in their newsletter too!  The list the reading but also a sentence about the reading.  What a great idea to set the scene but also to remind people what they heard in church on Sunday when they pick up the newsletter later in the week.  It looked like this ...

Lesson: Hosea 11: 1-11
The lament of God over rebelling children He can't give up
Gospel: Luke 12: 13-21
Parable of the Rich Fool told in response to a request to divide the family inheritance.

The collect for today as really good too:

Living God, Judge of us all,
You have placed in our hands
the wealth we call our own;
through Your Spirit give us wisdom,
that our possessions may not be a curse,
but a means of blessing in our lives.
Grant this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with You
in the unity of the Holy Spirit
one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.
